Tempo is a stat the HUD under-sells
The Blood of Dawnwalker Weapons
Weapons in The Blood of Dawnwalker are not just bigger numbers. Directional combat is a conversation about speed. A great sword that arrives late loses to a short sword that arrives on the unguarded line. Official key art puts a blade in Coen’s right hand inscribed Peregrini Aurorae — Dawn’s Pilgrim — with a balance motif. That is character, not a guaranteed starting drop. Loot still matters. The first gameplay overview has Coen swap a roadside sword because the stats were better. Believe both sentences.

| Long sword | Default duelist tempo | Swordsman first pick |
| Great sword | Slow, heavy, greedy | Players who already parry without omniassist |

Night claws are a weapon stance the clock gives you. They are not an inventory slot you vendor. If you love claws, spend tree time on Vampirism, not on shopping. If you love steel at midnight, check whether the build screen still lets you swing it; previews said yes in some contexts, with hexes still sealed.
How to loot without wasting a day
Inspection in ruins (see prologue) reveals special weapons the sprint crowd misses. Bandit corpses are the free market. Named quest rewards may hide behind hourglasses — pay only if the swing personality is a build change, not a tint. Stash a backup at a shrine before you vendor the tutorial blade; the items hub is the stash sermon.
Frequently asked questions
Is Peregrini Aurorae a unique?
It is named on the key art as Coen’s sword with a pilgrim/balance inscription. Treat it as signature fiction first. If it drops as a unique in-game, it still has to win on tempo.
Do vampires drop better steel?
Officers drop story. Bandits drop steel. Do not raid Ambrus for a DPS stick and call it a build.
