Four rungs. The calendar does not shrink.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Difficulty

The Blood of Dawnwalker ships four named difficulties: Story, Fair, Challenging, and Duelist. Rebel Wolves confirmed the ladder before launch and reviews have not claimed a secret fifth slider. The 30-day structure does not go away on Story. Bloodthirst does not politely switch off. What changes is how hard a parry window is, how greedy an enemy string can be, and whether you still want omniattack holding your hand.

This page is the buy-the-setting guide, not a damage table. If you came here because a trophy named Uphill Battle or Laslea Duelist is staring at you, read the last section before you restart a month.

What the four names actually mean

SettingWho it is forWhat still hurts
StoryPlayers here for faces, forks, and the monthHourglasses. Hunger. Missing a named person because you fed in the square.
FairDefault first file for most padsDirectional combat is honest. Assists still exist if you turn them on.
ChallengingPeople who already fenceCharge loops punish mash. Night elites stop being a joke.
DuelistThe trophy rung and the pride rungLaslea’s people and a clean family save do not share a casual afternoon.

Official previews described two combat styles on top of the ladder: full four-direction fencing, or omniattack and omniblock for players who hate that family of games. Unblockables still require a human decision on every rung. Controls is where those binds live. Difficulty is not a substitute for reading an hourglass.

The clock does not scale away

Story mode is not Majora’s Mask on tourist. Walking is still free. Quests still spend segments. A shrine level can still tax the calendar. If you pick Story because you want every side job and every skill tree node before the coronation, you will still run out of mornings. The time system is the same budget. The time planner does not grow extra pips because the HUD said Story.

Duelist is the other misunderstanding. It is not a New Game+ modifier that adds a second month. It is a combat and consequence rung. Trophy lists treat a Laslea rescue on Duelist as a separate receipt from a quiet first file. That is why achievements and endings refuse to live on one save.

Story still wants you to look at the sky. Duelist still wants you to look at the hourglass.

How to pick on night one

  • First file, first RPG pad: Fair, omniassist on, turn it off for the Forgotten Guardian if you want the lesson.
  • Here for Anca, Lacra, and the court: Story is allowed. Feed anyway. See companions.
  • Here for parries: Challenging, duel camera, Swordsman sentence.
  • Here for the Duelist trophy: a second month, after you know which ending you are buying.
  • Never pick a rung because you think hunger will vanish. It will not.

Difficulty changes the duel. It does not print extra days. If a prompt has an hourglass, the setting name on the pause menu is not a coupon.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change difficulty mid-run?

Treat the first week as sticky until the pause menu proves a free swap. Duelist trophies are the reason not to plan a mid-month promotion.

Does Story disable bloodthirst?

No public sheet says hunger off. Play as if the meter is live on every rung.

Which setting for a 60 fps Performance console?

Frame rate is a performance question. Difficulty is a parry question. Install the patch, then pick Fair unless you already fence.
